Breaking Wind...The hard way!

It's a safe bet that if you're taking the time to read my articles and follow the Bonneville Bullet saga that you are an enthusiast of a fairly high order. Like me you seek out others who are hard bitten and competitive and have decided to do something about it and pursue a dream.

You may be a marque specific advocate (Royal Enfields) or just an interested party that enjoys a great adventure with motorcycles. My guess is that you also have a very competitive spirit and by golly you want to cast in your lot and help see this thing through to the end!

Well my hat's off to all those faithful who have contributed (you know who you are) and to the rest of the team that has quite literally been busting their butt to bring this operation to fruition. Dan Holmes has been doing an amazing amount of work lately especialy considering that he actualy has a "real live" heart condition that would have most of us setting in front of the TV lamenting our luck.

My own contribution has been delayed somewhat due to the demands of my new position and the travel that comes with it. When your business has dropped off by some 68%, it's no time to be distracted by your hobbies. This has placed an even greater strain on the rest of the team. I know this all too well. It looks like I'm going to have to work some graveyard shifts to accomplish my goals.

Well it's 12:18 AM and I just got in from the fiberglass shop, am totally exhausted, and can't yet sleep a wink. My mind is fully ramped up and devising all the little nuances that can make a difference in our top speed potential. Because of our time constraints, Dan has been pushing ahead and finishing off all the little and big details that will pay dividends out on the salt. The old adage "if you don't bring it with you, you won't have it when you get there" holds more true than ever at the Great Salt Lake because you are quite literally in the middle of nowhere. It's a barren and hostile place to be sure!

We may all seem to have a screw loose because of how hard we are pushing ourselves to turn out a competitive effort but we just cant do it any other way. "Driven" is a good word for describing our dedication to meet our goal. My wife is firing shots across my bow trying to get me to back off and settle for less...She is just not on board and just plain "don't get it". My oldest daughter looks at me with a wry smile and tries to lighten the tension with little snippets that she knows will bring me a laugh and then adds her words of encouragement for my efforts. I think she knows what being "in the zone" means because she shares my artistic flare and when the spirit is right, you just can't walk away until the task is complete. She used to peek her head out into the garage late at night when I have been literally up to my armpits in a project and say a few words to break up the monotony. A true angel from heaven I say...

I think that all of our supporters would fall into this category if they could physicaly be there. All the hard work is dedicated to honoring them.

Our effort might be "Vintage" and "Grass Roots" but it will carry the competitive spirit of all those who care to see the Bonneville Bullet set it's mark in the record books.

Always Racing,

Phil
